Táto medzinárodná norma špecifikuje metódy na meranie hladín akustického tlaku na meracej ploche obklopujúcej zdroj hluku (stroje alebo zariadenia) v bezodrazových a polobezodrazových miestnostiach.Hladina akustického výkonu (alebo v prípade impulznej alebo prechodnej hlukovej emisie, hladina akustickej energie) vyžarovaných zdrojom hluku vo frekvenčných tretinovo-oktávových pásmach alebo s použitým frekvenčným A-vážením, sa vypočíta pomocou týchto meraní, vrátane korekcií, ktoré počítajú so všetkými rozdielmi medzi meteorologickými podmienkami v čase a na mieste skúšky a tými, ktoré zodpovedajú referenčnej akustickej impedancii.
