Tato norma uvádí postupy pro stanovení tepelného odporu výrobků o tloušťkách, které přesahují maximální tloušťku přístrojů chráněné teplé desky nebo měřidla tepelného toku. Většina postupů popsaných v této normě vyžaduje, aby bylo možné provést zkoušky na vzorcích o tloušťce až do 100 mm. Tato norma udává vodítka k určení významu vlivu tloušťky, tj. ověřit, zda tepelný odpor výrobku s velkou tloušťkou může nebo nemůže být vypočítaný jako součet tepelných odporů jednotlivých dílů odřezaných od výrobku, tato vodítka doplňují ukazatele uvedené v ISO 8302:1991 pro přístroj chráněné teplé desky
