Norma platí pro hydrostatické a pneumostatické mechanismy a k nim náležející hydrostatické prvky a stanoví názvy, značení a definice parametrů a veličin, které jsou uváděny v technické dokumentaci. Česky, slovensky a rusky je normalizováno 72 hesel. ČSN 11 9001 byla schválena 25.4.1988 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.1.1989. Nahradila ČSN 11 9001 z 15.3.1976.
